Site Move

Hey, everyone, I just wanted to let you know that the site is going to be moving servers soon, so to ease the transition, submissions have been turned off until the move is complete. With the move, we'll be getting the categories up to date with the current season, along with the character lists and everything. So hang in there, and we'll be back up and running soon.

Important Site Notice

Dear Authors and Readers, The year is winding down, and with it comes the realization that I've been running this site for over three years. The fanfiction section went up at the end of 2006, and what a time it's been! We currently have 49 authors and over 1000 members, and over 300 stories currently archived. In the last three years, we've had over 50k hits to the fanfiction section alone! Since the site's inception, I've been running the entire thing out-of-pocket, including hosting and the domain name, both of which are up for renewal. The problem is that I don't have the money to do it this time. I've been out of work for over a year, and paying for the site has nibbled away at my already low finances. I've never asked for donations to run the site, and I'm reluctant to now. The fact of the matter is, if I don't, the site will change drastically. I won't get into details, but it would be a messy move to a free site, we'd run the risk of losing comments, users, even stories. I'm not asking much, just that, if you can, please donate something to keep the site running. The donations will *only* go towards site maintenance, and a little will go a long way. If you love this site--which the statistics tell me that you do--please consider helping me out. Kim Manners

Sadly, Kim Manners, long-time executive producer and director of "Supernatural", passed away Sunday night after a battle with lung cancer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time. He will be greatly missed.

Change To Reviews

We've lately been hit with a lot of spam in the story reviews. After some consideration, the reviews are being changed, and anonymous commenting is going to be turned off. I realise that some of you visitors may not want to register, or have to log in, but right now, this is the only preventative measure we can take. Just remember, registration is fast and it's free. If you have any problems signing up, don't hesitate to e-mail me and I'll help you out.

Co-Authoring

So. Some of you may have noticed some . . . glitches . . . in the site tonight. That was me attempting to upgrade from eFiction 2.0.7 to 3.3.1, which allows co-authoring.Tthis was, in fact, the fifth attempt. Four of which were tonight, every one of which had weird things screw up the upgrade (browser crashed, server went down, etc.) Needless to say, I'm taking it as a Sign From Above that I shouldn't upgrade the archive. What does this mean for you? Well, not a heck of a lot. You can still post co-authored stories & series, but it'll have to be done where one of you posts and lists the other in the notes/summary as a co-author. For series, you can add the works of another user, anyway, so that's already in place. Sorry, guys. I tried.

Fanfiction contests!

To celebrate having almost 200 members, and nearly 100 stories, there's a new section open. In a joint effort between the message board and the archive, we're now hosting fanfiction contests (on average, these'll be about one per month). For more information, please see this thread on the forum.

Hell Quarterly, the fanzine we're affiliated with, has just released its Vol 2, Issue 1 'zine. This one features a "From The Ashes" story by Dana available only in this issue (at least until June or July). You can get this here.

Registration

I realised I posted this on the main site, but not on this one. If you register at one of the sites (the main one, or this archive), your login will not work with the other. You have to register both places. The member lists do not draw from each other.

Logging In

Apparently, some users are having difficulty logging in right after they register. If this applies to you, please try this page after it gives you an error, and see if it will let you view the page. Sometimes the site's a little finicky; I'm not really sure what causes it.

Ta-da!

As I'm sure you've all noticed from trying to navigate to the old address, we've moved. (Yes, again. Hush. :P) Buuuut . . . since this thing's all domain-ed and nifty stuff like that (and hosted by my father), we shouldn't have any of the weird random crap we were having before with the free hosts, like, um, the connection to the mySQL database going kablooey, or the other host that decided if something had a word in it that was on its forbidden list (which they wouldn't elaborate on, but I know one of the no-no words was "proxy"), it wouldn't load that page. And that severely damaged the functionality of the site, as you can imagine. So, I'll stop rambling now, and let you get back to reading lots o' steamy Winchester het-fic. 'Cause we got a lot of that 'round these parts. Oh, yeah. Changeth thy bookmarks!

As the subject of this entry says, there's something big coming for the site. Keep your eyes open! ETA: New membership is temporarily suspended, because I have to make some adjustments to the database and the site. This shouldn't be in effect longer than 24 or 48 hours at the longest.

E-Mails from the site

I'm afraid that the new server doesn't have the _sendmail function on, so e-mails are not getting sent out from the site. This includes notices of submissions, notices of reviews, and notices of favourite stories being updated. All news will, then, be posted here. Just keep checking back, and if you submitted something and it isn't posted to the site or you don't hear back from me in a timely manner about something, feel free to e-mail me, my e-mail is in the link at the bottom of every page.

We're back!

You may have noticed that we recently had some downtime. We've had to move to a new server, but everything should be mostly operational now. Please let me know if your story has somehow managed to disappear, or if you encounter any other problems. Also, we're aware that the categories are . . . missing. I'm working on fixing that now.

E-mails

Two things of note in this. 1. Your e-mail addresses are not visible to anyone. So even if someone e-mails you through the site, they won't get your e-mail unless you respond. 2. There was some question when we first opened of whether the server was sending out e-mails and notifications. It is, but it isn't sending out *all* of them. So check your bulk mail folders. To further ensure delivery, adding my e-mail address to your address book would be helpful.

Formatting

When you post to the archive, make absolutely certain that your coding is not messed up in any way. When the archive's script finds the very first messed up bit of code, it'll strip it and all text following it, so you may end up with only partial text in a chapter.
