He was tired, they said. Overworked. He needs a break. And that was true. He was exhausted, falling asleep with his eyes open in his chair holding his coffee with both hands and waking up stiff and aching and fisting the crushed paper cup. They had him crying all the time now, had him grumpy and broken and tired and betrayed and crying, and it was taking a toll in real life. He wasn’t nasty, it wasn’t in his vocabulary, but he wasn’t just tired either. Bleary eyed, groggy, rough ragged voice and bags under his eyes that sparked criticism from Kelly and Andrea in Hair & Makeup, but that wasn’t it. There was only one word for it.
